The Commissioner General of Fateh International Relations Rawhi Fattouh, calls upon the United Nations to abide by its charter and international law, to live up its responsibilities in the occupied city of Jerusalem, especially Al Aqsa mosque. In the light of the recent measures and attempts by the Israeli occupation to impose its sovereignty over the holy city.

In a press statement on Sunday, Fattouh denounced the bias of the Secretary General of the United Nations (Antonio Gueterres) on the situation, in term of the continued violations of the Israeli occupation against Al Aqsa mosque that contravene and defy UNESCO resolutions, considering Jerusalem a Palestinian occupied land. The violations that have escalated since 14 July following its closure for the Friday prayer, banning the call for prayer from their mosque, assault on the prayers, the latest was the installation of metal detectors at the entrances of the holy compound, and the tension continues to escalate.

Fattouh also urges the United Nations to take effective actions and procedures to compel the occupying power to comply with the Security Council resolution 2334 (2016) on the condemnation of settlements, and the continuous of illegal settlements expansions in the occupied West Bank, Including Jerusalem. The latest plan was the construction of 1,100 housing units in the north-east of Jerusalem.

He also renewes the refusal of the Palestinian people and its leadership to any Israeli attempts to change the legal and historic status quo in Al Aqsa mosque sovereignty over east Jerusalem, and the rejection of any Israeli intervention in the affairs of Al Aqsa mosque; I expect the S.G. and the international community to support this legal position.
